A few Community events on Anastasia Island to help get you in the Holiday mood!

You don’t have to be a runner to enjoy the Santa Suits on the Loose 5K run/jog/walk on Saturday, Dec. 8. It’s also a great spectator event. Starting at 8 a.m., hundreds of runners of all ages, some dressed in colorful Santa suits and holiday shirts, will dart through the streets of St. Augustine Beach starting from the St. Johns County Beach Pier. The course follows a flat 3.1 mile area through St. Augustine Beach neighborhoods and finishes at Pier Park. The charitable event benefits St. Augustine Youth Services, which provides residential therapeutic services to boys who have been the victims of child abuse and/or extreme neglect. The registration fee is $30 before race day and $35 on the day of the race. Children in strollers do not have to register. For registration and other information, go to or email [email protected].

Luminary Night at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, is a family-friendly event offering children’s activities, holiday crafts, live music and a visit from Santa Claus. There will be a variety of yuletide refreshments and lively entertainment including a string quartet that will perform inside the Lighthouse tower. Other performers will include SJCCA Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus, Limelight KidzfACTory Show Choir, St. Augustine Youth Chorus and the SJCCA Guitar Ensemble Guests can take a close-up look at the Lighthouse’s holiday decorations and lighting displays. Nautical ornaments, donated by people from throughout the country, will grace the centerpiece Christmas tree set up in the Keepers’ House. At least 10 other decorated trees will dot the property. Guests are invited to visit the Museum’s newest additions: Legends of the Light exhibition; and the Maritime Archaeology & Education Center. As a finale to the evening, visitors can climb the Lighthouse tower and view St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights from the top. Admission to Luminary Night is free. Visitors are invited to donate a nonperishable food item, which will be given to a local food pantry. The Lighthouse is at 100 Red Cox Road on Anastasia Island, across from the Alligator Farm.
